Robyn Hewetson - Listening and Speaking as a Celebrant's Greatest Gifts

$20.00

Words from Robyn about this discussion: One of my favourite characters in Shakespeare is Paulina from the Winter’s Tale. She says to the King, who is deeply in trouble; “Not only as your counsellor do I come, but as your Physician, with words as medicinal as true.” The task of our speaking often is to heal, and this is especially so for Celebrants whose task is to speak at the celebration of the life of someone who is passing. Understanding more about how we listen, and how our speaking can be enriched to work more consciously with this can help us reach our listeners better. I help people learn more about the amazing process of listening. At a funeral we want people to listen, to relate to what is said, to have time to bring their own inner response to it, and to be ready to hear more. What is said at these great life moments can become memories for life. I help you see that your voice really matters. We have the capacity to remember a voice for life. Learning to use your own voice well is a great life skill to have. I teach how stance, gesture, breathing, forming of the sounds and helping your voice to move out into the room are powerful aids to excellence in speaking.
